Our November 2016 Mess Night us know upon us, just three weeks away on the 18th. This will be a grand opportunity to showcase the British United Services Club to our friends, colleagues, neighbors and of course family, and to inaugurate our honoring of the Commonwealth nations.  It is our great privilege to present as our speaker for this special mess Her Majesty's Consul General at Los Angeles, The Honorable Chris O'Connor, OBE. There will be little doubt his words to the assembled group will be interesting and enlightening. If you have not already done so, please RSVP according to the instructions below and at Attachment 3. See you all there for what promises to be a grand evening!!

Our Speaker
2016 Commonwealth Night

Chris OíConnor, OBE. has been the British Consul General in Los Angeles since August 2013. He represents the UK government in Southern California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Hawaii. He promotes trade and investment, scientific cooperation, creative and media collaborations and educational partnerships between the UK and the southwestern United States. He also oversees delivery of essential consular services to a 600,000-strong British resident community and British visitors numbering over a million per year.

Prior to his current role, Chris was UK Ambassador to Tunisia from 2008-2013. He has worked in British embassies in Cairo, Riyadh and Beirut as well as the British High Commission in Ottawa and the UK Delegation to NATO. He was head of the UK Foreign Office Middle East Peace Process Team in London from 2003-2005.

Chris earned a Bachelorís Degree from the University of Cambridge and a Masterís Degree in Middle Eastern Politics from Durham University.  He speaks Spanish, French and Arabic. He is married to Martha Nelems, who is Canadian. They have two daughters.
