Captain Stuart R. Bird-Wilson, TD

Air Force Night Program Ė RAF Defensive Capabilities in the Battle of Britain

Alex Robertson, an enthusiastic historian who has studied the RAF and the Battle of Britain, will lead off with some family history related to the Battle of Britain and then review two little-known early warning systems Britain used against the Germans and Italians.

Alex will lead off with his Fatherís experiences in the RAF in World War Two. These include flying into action over occupied Europe, parachuting Special Operations Executives (SOE), working with French Resistance fighters, and on D-Day (Pegasus Bridge) and Operation Market Carden (Arnhem) towing gliders with British troops. Then he plans to describe two defensive surveillance systems the British used for defense of the British Isles.

He will be using visuals from a visit in June of 2019 to the Pegasus Bridge to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. He will bring his Fatherís WWII medals, including a French Legion of Honor.

Be sure to attend our AF Night for the social hour to meet Alex and to enjoy his presentation on some key glimpses of the RAFís roles in the Battle of Britain.
